Have you been thinking about jumping on the capsule wardrobe bandwagon? We are passionate about capsule wardrobes here at BettyxBow because we believe they are a GREAT way to simplify your life and reduce your carbon footprint (while still looking stylish - of course). By creating a capsule wardrobe, you can easily mix and match a select number of well-made pieces to create a variety of outfits. However, one of the most important aspects of creating a capsule wardrobe is choosing a colour palette. In this blog post, we are going to share some tips on how to choose a colour palette for your capsule wardrobe, so you can feel confident on your quest to start building a simple, sustainable, and stylish closet!
What are the benefits of a capsule wardrobe?
Before we dive into choosing a colour palette, give us just a second to share why we believe that a capsule wardrobe is important. First of all, it's eco-friendly. Fast fashion is one of the biggest environmental issues of our time, and a capsule wardrobe can help reduce waste by encouraging you to buy fewer, high-quality items. Secondly, it's easier. We women are BUSY. Busier than ever really. With a well-curated wardrobe, getting dressed in the morning becomes a breeze. No more staring into your closet for hours, trying to decide what to wear (it's not just you that does that). And lastly, a capsule wardrobe can save you money. Yes, investing in high-quality items may seem expensive upfront, but in the long run, you'll spend less on clothes that will last you for years.
On board? Great! Now we are ready to share some tips for choosing a colour palette for your capsule wardrobe!
1) Look at what you have already.
We practice what we preach when talking about sustainability. Before you head to the mall or start browsing online, take a look at what you already own. What colours are you naturally drawn to? What colours do you feel fabulous in?
The goal of a capsule wardrobe is to create a small collection of items that you love, so we want to make sure your colour palette reflects that. If you already own a lot of black, consider incorporating other neutrals like white, beige, or grey to add depth. If you find yourself loving pops of burgundy or monochromatic shades of blue, start with those colours too!
2) Consider your neutrals.
Speaking of neutrals, your neutrals will be an imperative part of any colour palette. Black, white, and grey go with almost anything, and can be used as a base for your entire wardrobe. For example, you can pair a black t-shirt with jeans, a skirt, or shorts and it will always look great. And as a little bonus? Almost all of our pieces at BettyxBow come in at least one neutral hue!
3) Consider the tone of your colour palette
We are a big fan of muted tones here at BettyxBow, because they truly look good on everyone! When creating your own capsule wardrobe colour palette, you can break your colours down into warm or cool tones. Warm colours have a yellow or red undertone, while cool colours have a blue or green undertone. Knowing which colours work best with your unique skin tone is important. I want you to FEEL as good as you look. If you're not sure what tones you should gravitate to, head to your nearest mall. Try physically holding up different shades of colours up to your face and see which ones bring out your eyes and make your skin look healthy.
4) Invest in high-quality staples in your core colours.
For your wardrobe to work seamlessly, you may need to add a few high-quality staples in your core colours. For example, if you choose black, white, blush, and beige as your base colours, you might want to invest in a couple of high-quality bodysuits, a cute pair of blush paperbag shorts for spring, and a black jumpsuit that you can transition from day to night. These items will quickly become the foundation of your wardrobe and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Ultimately - they will make it easier (and more enjoyable!) for you to choose your outfits in the morning!

5) Don't be too rigid.
While we try to shop sustainably and intentionally most of the time, we also don't believe in perfection over here. Your clothing should make you feel empowered and elevated, but it should also feel fun. While we believe curating a wardrobe colour palette is important, you also deserve to add pops of colour into your wardrobe when you want to add statement pieces. Maybe that means a floral skirt that you love in the summer. Or a stunning slip dress that becomes your go to event dress for a season or two. The point of a capsule wardrobe is not to restrict yourself, but to make smart choices that suit your style and lifestyle.
